What we collect
Information you give us:
- Your name, email, and message when you use the contact form
Information that stays on your device: Your books, including transactions, invoices, bills, customers, vendors, bank files you import, reports, and backups, are stored only in your browser's storage on your device. We never receive them. Clearing your browser data deletes them, so download a backup file regularly. Bank and card files you load are read on your device and are not uploaded.
Information collected automatically: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, and time) to keep the site running and secure. We don't use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics.
How we use it
- To respond to you and provide what you asked for
- To send the emails you signed up for, each with an unsubscribe link
- To process payments and keep required records
- To keep the site secure and prevent fraud or abuse
- To comply with the law
We don't use your information to build advertising profiles.
Who we share it with
- Service providers that run parts of the site for us, under contracts that limit their use of your data: Netlify (website hosting and form storage), Stripe (payments, where offered), and Google Fonts (your browser loads typefaces from Google, which receives your IP address).
- Advertising. The home page may show ads served by Google AdSense, which uses cookies to show and measure ads. Ads never run inside the bookkeeping app. Google's own privacy policy applies, and you can manage ad personalization in your Google account settings.
- Partners you visit through our links. If you click a partner link, such as a business bank or payroll service, that partner's privacy policy applies and they may pay us a commission.
- Legal reasons: when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or us.
- Business transfers: if the business is sold or merged, your information may transfer to the new owner under this policy.
Payments. We don't take payments.
Sale and sharing of personal information. We do not sell your personal information. Advertising cookies set by Google on the home page may count as "sharing" for targeted advertising under some state laws; you can opt out through Google's ad settings or by using a Global Privacy Control signal.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and other states with privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we have about you, get a copy, correct it, delete it, and opt out of its sale, sharing, or use for targeted advertising. We give these rights to everyone, wherever you live.
To make a request, use our contact form and choose "Privacy request" or "Delete my data." We'll confirm we received it within 10 days and respond within 45 days. We may need to confirm your identity first. You can use an authorized agent. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision, and we'll respond within 60 days. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
We honor Global Privacy Control browser signals as an opt-out of sale and sharing.
How long we keep it
Contact form messages are kept for up to 24 months. We don't hold your books, so there's nothing of yours to retain or delete on our side.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we'll notify you as the law requires.
Children
Footing is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Visitors outside the United States
We're based in the United States and your information is processed here.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll post a notice on the site or email people we have contact details for.
